Ceramic Tile Cleaners

Homemade Ceramic Tile Cleaners

Although ceramic tiles are almost maintenance-free, the tiles and grout can still become dingy. Thorough cleaning with mild household cleaners is still necessary. However, should you want a far better result, you can just try to visit to local stores and look for the best ceramic tile cleaners that will work best on your tiles and grout.

Dirt particles particularly build up in the grout area, making it more time-consuming to clean. Just to avoid spending so much time cleaning your ceramic tiles, regular sweeping or dusting and right away cleaning up on spills are recommended. Maintaining clean tiles is never a difficult task, but still many people try to ignore that fact. They wait until the floor is so dirty, and get on with harsh chemicals to clean the floors. Some commercial cleaners contain hazardous chemicals, thus creating a higher risk of exposure to chemicals, which we all know are bad for our health, and damaging, as well, our ceramic tiles.

Maintenance cleaning can save you a lot of money and effort and a whole lot of serious hands-and knees scrubbing. You may also try homemade and do-it-yourself household cleaners that are safer alternatives, and thus reducing the risks of exposure to hazardous chemicals. Not only that, homemade tile cleaners are also environment-friendly, so you no longer contribute to the world’s pollution. Homemade ceramic tile cleaners are also budget-friendly, since ingredients only include materials you usually have in your kitchen. Furthermore, since you will be using all natural ingredients, you can avoid strong-smelling perfumes and chemicals.

Here are some non-toxic products that qualify as good ingredients for your homemade ceramic tile cleaner:

  • Baking soda – it is known for its being an odor absorber. It may be used alone with water and sponge to wipe away stains on your ceramic tiles. For tough stains, you may need to leave on baking soda on the stained surface for 15-20 minutes before wiping away.
  • Vinegar – serves as an all-purpose cleaner, deodorizer and disinfectant. It is also an effective stain remover.
  • Lemon juice – also a stain remover. It works well on hard water stains and built-up soap scum.

Here is also a simple recipe that you may want to try. This is an effective ceramic tile cleaning recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ gallons of  hot tap water
  • 4 tbsp. of lemon juice
  • 1 ¼ cups of white vinegar
  • Lavender oil (or any scent you like)

Instructions:

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bucket.
  2. Dip mop in solution and wipe thoroughly on the ceramic tiles.
  3. Mop or wipe the ceramic tiles with clean hot tap water. You may add a few drops of lavender oil (or any scent of your choice) for a fragrant clean finish.

Although these homemade tile cleaning products are safer to use, they may not really work as well as those commercially-available products. The decision, then, still lies in your hands. You may end up adding up more ingredients, thus adding up cost, and may find yourself spending the same amount as on those commercial products.
